The critically acclaimed Eva Dean Dance presents “ Galumph, Child and Spider” and other dances. Eva Dean Dance audience favorites “Pumped” and “Civry” are also part of this 45 minute production, which is great for ages 5 and up. Smart, fun, mysterious and enchanting, this production appeals to those who like pillow fights as well as handsome dancing.
“ Galumph, Child and Spider” (2007) is a mysterious piece that has nighttime specters, a big black spider and a child who is not one bit afraid. Young Kellan turns the table and gets the green Galumph sledding on pillows instead of trying to steal them. Audiences learn how movement can transform nightmares into pillow fights.
In “Pumped” (1999), sequined gowns swirl, dancers duel and your mother's combat boots stamp flamenco-influenced rhythms. Two dancers attired in ballroom dresses with boots stamp out rhythms while using high heeled shoes as castanets. High heels also become the weapons of choice in the infamous “ Pumped ” duel.
“Civry” (1992) is a handsome trio set to Vaughn William's “Lark Ascending.” Elizabeth Zimmer from The Village Voice said this piece “is a lighthearted, decorous dance full of counterbalances and gentle supports for falling bodies...it reminded me of why, sometimes, dance matters: in its very lightness, it lifts our cares.”
SONOROUS ECHO

Eva Dean Dance, in collaboration with members of Alloy Orchestra, created SONOROUS ECHO which premiered in July 2007 at Dance Theatre Workshop. This evening-length work was inspired by the night - the unconscious world of sleeping and the surreal world of sleep deprivation. Falling asleep and reawakening merges death into birth; for many, the nighttime is magical. This piece will live through peaceful calm and fear, those richly varied emotions we experience in the night. The shadows of separate worlds blend as a family plays musical beds and shrouded specters make their presence felt. Alloy Orchestra created and performs a sound score featuring the ambient noises of the night such as crickets and dripping faucets.
Costumes are by Jean Hill, who has collaborated with Ms. Dean since 1986, and lighting is designed by Zoë Klein. Dancers included Eva Dean, Marcel Dou, Maia Sage Ermansons, Kristin Hatleberg, Nicole Mannarino, and Tony Nilsson.
BOUNCE
Dean's use of balls as the entire premise of an evening-length piece takes away the gimmicky quality of the ball dance genre and turns it instead into a game of endurance and originality.

BOUNCE is a captivating theatrical experience featuring dances with balls. A kaleidoscope assortment of colors, textures and sizes, these spheres are more to Bounce than mere props. Six breathtaking performers use the balls as dancing partners that extend movement possibilities and performance intention. The dances transform space and time, taking audiences on a journey into magical vignettes. Images of serene orbiting planets, a Busby Berkeley inspired water ballet, a genie balanced on a pearl in a desert, a mysterious Egyptian moon garden, an ancient Irish dance with a crystal ball: All these inspire the atmospheric journey that is BOUNCE.
BOUNCE, JR.
Running Time: 45 minutes
Kids love this [Bounce], but adults need it more. The dance is mesmerizing, meditative, and comforting to watch.
